Cole Murray appoints CEO

Cole Murray was established in 2005, when Jeremy Cole and Mike Murray saw there was a need for providing real financial solutions for real people.

Bringing mortgages, life and health insurance advisers under one roof meant that when our clients came to us, we could look at their whole financial picture and help them successfully navigate their financial journey.

Future planning

Today, this is still our driver for why we do what we do. Although over almost two decades later things have changed quite a lot. We have been expanding our advising services in Hawke’s Bay by adding domestic and business insurance into the mix, along with investment and KiwiSaver to our services. Technology has advanced, the financial sector has brought in a lot more legislation, and saying there have been economic challenges is a bit of an understatement.

With all of these complexities in mind, we have reached a point where a bigger support team is required to continue supporting our team of experienced Financial Advisers and clients. Cole Murray has appointed Will Vermeulen as Chief Executive Officer which reinforces our value of commitment to our team and our clients.

“Will is a dynamic leader coming from the high-paced hospitality and retail industry. He is a great fit for our business and clients,” says Mike Murray. Jeremy and Mike will be taking a step back from the day-to-day operation of the business, but will still be involved as Financial Advisers to their clients and as members of the Board.

Will is excited about the new challenges this role will bring.

Making the move to Hawke’s Bay from Auckland four and a half years ago with my wife, Julia, and six-month-old son, Ari, to raise our family in my wife’s hometown has been a blessing. Since moving to Hawke’s Bay, we have built a new home (between lockdowns), added another member to our family, Isla, and navigated the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has been a test of our family’s character to which I know many people can relate.

Many of us have had to learn how to adapt, pivot and keep going to ensure food stays on our tables and businesses keep surviving. Joining the team at Cole Murray is a great honour. I feel very fortunate to be part of a Hawke’s Bay institution that has been advising clients over the last 18 years. I have a great team around me with many years’ experience and more joining to ensure we give the best advice to each and every one of our clients. We have trusted providers whom we work very closely with to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.
I look forward to meeting many of you whether it’s at the Cole Murray Cape Kidnappers Trail Run, at the office or out and about in our beautiful region.”

We wish Will all the best in this new role and we are looking forward to seeing what Cole Murray will be doing in the next 12 months, five and 10+ years. Congratulations Will.
