Client stories: Historical claim payouts

Cole Murray’s Insurance Advisers know insurance policies inside out. They often find, when making their regular reviews, that something has happened to their clients, and they haven’t realised they were able to make a claim.

How an Insurance Adviser helps you

A Life & Health Insurance Adviser helps their clients to understand and manage their insurance needs. They offer advice and guidance on policy options and coverage. They provide support through the claims process. Most importantly, they ensure the client has the appropriate protection for their individual circumstances.

They are in regular contact with their clients making sure that their policies are still adequate for their situation. They check to see if things have changed or if anything has happened since they last spoke. Having your insurance directly through the insurer means you don’t have an independent adviser by your side.

Client stories

There are too many stories to tell them all, but here are some recent examples of our Insurance Advisers helping their clients get insurance pay-outs that they didn’t realise they could get.

Two historical claims

“Most people put their policy documents away and forget what’s actually covered,” says Sue Daulby, Insurance Adviser at Cole Murray. “During our reviews, we often find out about health issues or things that have happened, sometimes years ago, that could have been claimed for, but the client just didn’t know.”

Sue had a client, we will call her Abigail*, come in to talk about cancelling her policy. Her situation had changed and she was unable to afford the premiums.

“There is always some way we can help in these situations, so I talked through what was happening with Abigail” said Sue.

She discovered that Abigail had also recently been diagnosed with cancer. She was lucky enough to have had it removed and was on the road to recovery. Unbeknown to Abigail, her policy had cover for cancer and she could make a claim. Her payout was a welcome relief at that time in her life.

Through helping Abigail with her claim and taking her through the process, another opportunity to claim was revealed. Abigail’s daughter had been involved in an accident, about seven years ago, that had caused her significant burns.

Under Abigails’s trauma cover, children are covered for free. Although she didn’t meet the criteria for a claim on her burns, Sue knew she would be eligible for something in a different category. With Sue’s help, Abigail received a claim payout for this too. So once again, a historic claim made years after the incident.

“This is the reason you have insurance, to ensure you are covered when you are most vulnerable. My many years of experience means I ask the right questions, and my clients get what they are entitled to,” says Sue, “It’s why I do, what I do.”

Our Insurance Advisers don’t give up

Insurance Adviser, David Riddell, says people not realising they have a claim happens more often than you would think.

“Insurance is meant to help when you need it,” says David. “But it only works if you know when to use it. That’s why our insurance reviews are so important – they make sure clients get all the benefits they deserve, even if the event happened months or years ago.”

David’s client, Paul*, was well overdue for an insurance review. David tried calling him many times but kept getting another family member. We understand that talking about insurance may not be the top of anyone’s priority list. Everyone is busy. But David persevered as these reviews are so important.

In one of the calls the family member mentioned that Paul had been off work, due to a health issue. This rang alarm bells for David that there potentially could be a claim involved. Once he mentioned this, Paul came back to him right away.

Paul was entitled to a payout for an issue that happened 10 years ago! Safe to say, Paul now eagerly awaits David’s review.
