If you’re about to step onto the property ladder or looking for your next house, congratulations – it is an exciting time.

However, it can also be stressful trying to find the right house for you, competing with other buyers and deciding what loan structure is best for your needs.

Here, we check out four must-have smartphone apps for any property purchaser, with features to make your life easier while you find the right property.

1. OneRoof (download: iOSAndroid)

Take the guesswork out of real estate listings. This app is designed to help property buyers and owners, as it collates information on recent sales data and provides detailed home listings. Best of all, it contains a specialised search function, so you can narrow your search to specific property features that are important to you, including school zones and commute times.

2. Trade Me (download)

Search and browse the property categories, to find properties in your desired location(s). Property listings provide you with the sales person's contact details, as well as open homes information, and usually lots of photos of the inside – so you can decide whether to go to the open home, view from the street or drive right on by. Put properties on your watchlist so you can easily check in on them at a later time.

3. QV Homeguide (download)

Another all-in-one app that consolidates a large amount of data, to help you narrow your search. In addition to sales and valuation information, features include information on the characteristics of a suburb and a map to show the schools in your home’s zone. Even better, you can get information about a property just by pointing your phone's camera at a house.

4. Google Maps (download: iOSAndroid)

Probably a given, but having Google Maps on your phone will save you a lot of time – not just when trying to find the property, but also when planning your open homes. By using the maps function, you can schedule in open homes that are at similar times in close proximity, rather than driving round and round the streets of different suburbs, eating up time and fuel.

If you are looking for the right property, why not put your smartphone to good use?
